Japan is one of the most successful nations in the world in terms of economy and tourism. It has the third largest nominal GDP, after the US and China, and the fourth in terms of purchasing power, following the US, China and India. It also attracts millions of tourists from around the world every year. Japan has one of the most interesting and unique cultures, arts, music and cuisines in the world.

Hence, it should not be a surprise that there is such a high demand for Japanese translation services in London. Many businesses deal with Japanese clients or business partners, and some have ventured into globalizing their companies in cities such as Tokyo and Kyoto. People also flock from the UK to Japan to take a vacation or visit friends.

The Japanese language is not exactly one of the easiest languages to learn, and hiring a professional translator is the best way to ensure that you and your Japanese couterparts – whether they are your business partners or friends – understand each other without any misinterpretations.

But why is Japanese so difficult to learn?

For starters, there are three ways to write Japanese.  The first one is Kanji, composed of thousands of Chinese characters. The second one, Japanese syllabries of 46 characters each called Hiragana and Katakana. For an average speaker to get by, he must be proficient in both Hiragana and Katakana.  He would need to learn at least a few hundred Kanji.

Pronunciation is also complex as most words have a Chinese root and a Japanese root of pronunciation. They are completely different sounds. For example, there are 8 Kanji characters that are pronounced as “shin” and none of their meanings are related to each other (they actually mean God, advance, believe, new, true, stretch, heart, and parent).
